SFDA mandates Halal Shipment Certificate for Meat & Poultry Products destined to Saudi Arabia
With effect from 1st November 2020, all shipments of meat & poultry destined to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia are mandated to obtain:
- Halal certificate for the food manufacturer
- Halal shipment certificate for each shipment
A Halal shipment certificate is to be issued under the Saudi Food and Drug Authority (SFDA) Halal Centre Certification Scheme only by approved Halal certification bodies for clearance of the consignment (air, sea, or land) at Saudi ports and borders.
SGS Gulf Limited is the only approved certification body within the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) under SFDA to carry out Halal Certification and Shipment Certification for Food Manufacturers exporting their products to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. SGS Gulf Limited is also accredited under GCC Accreditation Center (GAC) for the widest scope of product certification in the region and is also approved by Emirates Authority For Standardization & Metrology (ESMA) in United Arab Emirates and Saudi Standards, Metrology and Quality Organization (SASO) in Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
Halal certification is based on the harmonized Halal Standards & Islamic Sharia requirements for the GCC region. Such certifications acquired from SGS Gulf Limited provides a strong opportunity for the global industry to ensure their products are compliant with the Halal requirements, thereby allowing them to position their products and services to the ever flourishing Muslim population in the region.
